The 3.2 Carrera was launched in October 1983 and although similar in appearance to the outgoing SC, had numerous technical improvements to improve driveability, refinement, and performance. Most notable was the new 3164cc engine that featured a digital motronic 2 electronic (DME) management system and a new Bosch LE Jetronic fuel injection to raise power from 204BHP to 231BHP. This not only gave a 10% improvement in fuel economy, but the top speed also increased from 146mph to 152mph. This engine was significantly more powerful than the previous 3.0-liter unit, and provided improved acceleration and performance. The 3.2-liter engine was also much smoother and more refined, making it a great choice for long-distance driving.
The 911 3.2 Targa was also updated with a number of cosmetic changes, including new exterior lighting and improved interior trim. The interior was also updated with more comfortable and supportive seats, as well as improved instrumentation and audio systems. Despite these changes, the Porsche 911 3.2 Targa stayed true to the classic 911 formula. It was a lightweight and nimble sports car that offered excellent handling and performance, making it a popular choice among driving enthusiasts. Today, these cars are highly sought after by Porsche collectors and enthusiasts, and are considered some of the best examples of the 911 lineup from this era.
